Internet Access and Your Business
Managing the risks, exploiting the benefits.
Remote Support and Monitoring
Remote Support
Once secure and reliable Internet access has been established, the benefits that flow from being connected
can be realized.
Many support companies now rely on remote support via broadband, to provide rapid, effective helpdesk support.
If the remote agent can get straight onto your machine to troubleshoot issues that arise, this will benefit your
business. For example, Software of Excellence have recently introduced a system based on technology that allows
any computer, anywhere on the Internet, even behind firewalls, to be securely remotely controlled by the software
support company (with the user's permission). Previously, this would only be possible via dialup modem, a very
slow and cumbersome solution, or by configuring the firewall to allow access.
Remote monitoring
Net Therapy offers a remote monitoring service, which queries all our customer networks' servers every 5
minutes of every day, every day of the year. This allows us to pro-actively maintain our customers' networks,
pre-empting failures arising from capacity or performance issues or failing hardware. This gives us the unique
ability to fully manage your network, wherever in the UK you are based. This would not be possible without
broadband connectivity.
For resilience, we operate 2 separate network monitoring systems. We monitor connectivity, CPU load, memory usage, capacity, hardware sensors, HP Proliant agents, all the system logs, and all the important services. This means that if one of your critical servers fails over the weekend, we know about it, and may be able to fix it remotely, so the issue is resolved by the time you come to work on the Monday morning. In addition, we can graph and analyse historical information, so we can see performance trends, and recurring faults, which assists with troubleshooting and maintenance.
Anti-virus software
Finally, the network needs good quality anti-virus software throughout, which automatically updates and performs periodic scans. It should not rely on the user in any way, and, as much as possible, should not interfere with the normal operation of the computers. IT nees to be powerful, able to recognize the latest viruses, but also unobtrusive, and light on the machine - that is, not requiring too many resources that can cause the machine to slow down. We recommend and install Client/Server anti-virus software, that is installed and managed from this server, as this allows for automatic and verifiable updates and scans, and easier administration.
